Every year we go through this, my babies are growing up and its hard and it hurts and I wish time would slow down ten fold so I can enjoy them little for a longer period of time. But time waits for no-one and thus we must plan a party.
My boys are 5 years apart and finding a theme that fits them both is very hard. Therefore, the old kid gets to choose and he chose “Pokémon”.
Now I am always up for a challenge and birthday parties are never not challenging. There’s all these emotion fueled feelings that make you turn into crazy party planner mom. You want the party to be perfect but not overdone. You want to seem crafty but not like your trying to hard. You want the theme to be displayed in all areas but not to seem like your forcing it. I know, I’m showing my crazy right now, but I also know I’m not the only one.
Enter Pinterest. Pinterest is the answer to all your diy needs. I would scour and search and pin for hours on end. Everything you see seems doable and easy. But I end up just feeling frustrated and defeated by some of the projects I see on Pinterest. Generally, I take the projects I see and I modify them to regular people standards. Here are some of the things I came up with for my boys.
My favorite project of the party were these cupcakes – so simple. It all came out of procrastination, as most successful projects do lol. I had promised my son I would send cupcakes to his class on his birthday but failed to make said cupcakes. Insert #momguilt, so I headed to Walmart and right in the case already prepared were red and white cupcakes. A lightbulb went off , I could mix the frostings and add black to turn them into pokeballs. It was executed perfectly and my son was ecstatic.
The location was something I chose. We hosted the party at a trampoline park/ indoor playground. The location was perfect for both ages. They even had a foam block building arena that many of the guest were drawn to and spent much of their time at. My niece spent the whole party building an 8ft house lol
