Easter is one of my favorite holidays to share with the children. Although the true meaning gets second place to the fun stuff, it is still important to both explain the significance of the holiday and how we acknowledge its importance. I frequently discuss with my children that every family is different. We talk about how the way we celebrate things may be different than the way others celebrate and that is perfectly ok. We dont want to get too heavy because life gets heavy enough, and there will be plenty of time for them to know the true meaning of Easter. As long as the children are having fun and enjoying themselves, we know we have succeeded. Honestly, Easter is like the inaugural springtime holiday and we get so excited to start doing outdoor activities. However, we live in New England so it’s still going to be chilly for at least 4 more weeks.
Activities
First and foremost an Easter egg hunt, then of course egg dying, coloring, visiting the easter bunny, stickers, painting.
We have a toddler in our home so we often try to do actives that don’t require getting too dirty. We do a lot of whipped cream painting and even used it to dye our eggs this year. You can find a great how-to on whipped cream Easter eggs here. We used to use shaving cream but have found that whipped cream is a lot safer because it’s edible, so we don’t have to worry about him getting sick.
Snacks
For easter snacks we like to make “bunny bait”
Bunny Bait is simply popcorn with white chocolate drizzled on top and mixed with chocolate eggs. So good!
We also enjoy cinnamon rolls and of course egg salad from leftover decorated eggs, delicious.
Movies
I feel like the easiest way to get into the holiday spirit for any holiday is through movies. We always had a handful of movies that would get us into the mood of whatever holiday was approaching. Our top 5 Easter movies are:
